The campaign was aimed to raise public awareness of the importance of good eye care, especially for Victorians aged 50 and over, and encouraged people to get their eyes tested regularly so that conditions can be detected early and treated accordingly. It also aimed to inform people about common eye conditions and their symptoms.
As well as advertising featuring in metropolitan Melbourne, there was a focus on the regional areas of Ballarat and Bendigo.
A series of community education sessions, hosted by the Macular Degeneration Foundation, were also conducted in regional Victorian centres from 31 October - 15 November. As well as a talk on age-related macular degeneration, these sessions included speakers from one or more Vision 2020 Australia partners, including Optometrists Association of Australia, Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, Guide Dogs Victoria, Vision Australia and Glaucoma Australia. The sessions aimed to increase public awareness about specific eye conditions, general eye health and vision rehabilitation.
Attendees at the sessions were asked to fill in a survey and the findings will be posted on the site in the near future.
